I spent weeks searching for the best pirate costume for our family’s annual Halloween party. I wanted something that would be comfortable, and flattering, but also somewhat realistic, as my family is known for putting on a creepy and “believable” Halloween show!I had come across many pirate costumes, and almost all were either too risqué or simply too “costumey”. It came down to the wire, and I finally decided to go with this one, as the price was good, and I saw it as a costume I could easily alter to my liking. My only concern was the quality and fit.When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this costume. It was definitely well made, and durable, but also comfortable. Secondly, it fit perfectly! I wear roughly a 7-8/medium, and this costume wasn’t too tight, too loose, too short or too long. I couldn’t help but think that I could have even added the blouse to my daily wardrobe, should that be my “style”, because it was so well made. However- that wasn’t my intention with this costume. I wanted to be a zombie-pirate, more or less, and I needed the costume to be more “believable”. So- I got to work. I cut/ripped the blouse up a bit, roughed up the corset, and used Halloween makeup and black hair coloring spray to dirty up the costume. I added a tattered red sash to the mix, put a couple of fake black roses in the hat, put the boot covers over my knee-high boots, and voila! My costume came to life.I truly loved the outcome, as did many others, as I received several compliments.In the end, I’m very happy that I chose this costume. I don’t believe I would have been nearly as satisfied with any other. I’m probably going to wear it again next year!
